Remembering Thelma Harms
1925-2026

ERSI Associates are sad to announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague Thelma on Sunday, February 15, 2026. She was 100 years old. Many of you will remember Thelma, who with Dick Clifford first conceptualized and developed the first version of the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scales in the late 1970s.

She was a brilliant and powerful woman, always passionate about ensuring high quality experiences for young children to promote their positive development.

Those of us at ERSI who worked with her closely for many years are remembering her with all our stories of how she was dynamic, funny, and an incredible mentor (although maybe not always the best driver😉). We shared so much over the decades, both professionally and personally, and we will always carry a deep gratitude for the ways in which we learned and grew together.
