In-Person Training

We offer flexible 2- or 4-day in-person training options that focus on guided classroom observations and application of the scale. For those who are not seeking reliability certification, the 2-day training provides guided observation experience and practical support using the scale. For those seeking reliability certification, the 4-day training includes 4 guided observations required for the possibility of certification. Trainings are conducted by the authors and their certified trainers.

**Prerequisite: All participants must complete introductory training on the scale before attending the in-person observation training. Introductory training may be completed by enrolling in an Introductory webinar or by taking the ERSI 101 online course.

This training is designed for those who have experience using the Environment Rating Scales and have already completed introductory training, either virtually or in person.

 

Training includes 4 days of guided observations, with daily debriefing sessions to discuss obsevrations, scoring, and application of the scale.

​ERSI is the only agency authorized by the Environment Rating Scale authors to provide reliability training on the Environment Rating Scales.

​

Reliability training provides participants with the opportunity to practice using the scale through guided observations in real early childhood settings, with feedback and discussion from an ERSI trainer. Participants complete a series of observations to demonstrate their ability to use the scale consistently and accurately.

Reliability is determined by averaging scores across three observations. Reliability trainings include four observation days, allowing the lowest score to be dropped and the highest three scores to be averaged.

ERSI offers three levels of reliability:

• Technical Assistance: 80–84%

• Assessor: 85–89%

• Anchor: 90% or higher
