Training Information:
We are now accepting applications for the ECERS-3 training to be held March 11-15, 2024. This course provides training in the use of the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale - Third Edition (ECERS-3).

This training provided by ERSI, Inc. is the only training course created and approved by the authors of the Environment Rating Scales. The authors of the widely used All About book series serve as faculty for the training. Participants will be taught to use the scale and given guided practice conducting assessments in child care settings. Comprehensive debriefing will follow each practice assessment, led by experienced group leaders, with the authors on hand to answer questions. Flexible training options include 3-, 4- and 5- day training courses.

The 3-day Introductory Training consists of 1 instructional day and 2 days of guided observations. The ability to add 2 additional guided observation days to the Introductory Training is available, resulting in a 5-day training. More experienced users, who do not need an introductory day, are able to sign up for the 4-day training. The prerequisite of the 4-day training is to have previously completed Introductory Training. The 4-day training consists of 4 days of guided observations, in order to obtain certification on the ECERS-3.

Certification is determined by achieving a required score across 3 consecutive observations. The requirement for being considered a certified reliable user of the scales is an average reliability score of 80% or higher for technical assistance level, 85% or higher for assessor level, and 90% or higher for anchor level, based on the three consecutive observations conducted by certified ERSI trainers. Attending the training does not guarantee certification of the ECERS-3.

Application procedure

Applications must be accompanied by a check or approved purchase order. We cannot guarantee spots without a purchase order or check for the training. Purchase orders must be replaced with checks by February 12, 2024. Interest typically exceeds our capacity - we are often completely booked two weeks after opening registration - so apply early for the best chance of enrollment. Applicants will be notified within a few days that their application was received. At least one month prior to the training dates participants will receive an email with additional training information to confirm enrollment in the course (travel arrangements should not be made until that email has been received). Submitting an application is not an automatic acceptance.

Fee

A fee of $2,200 for the 3-day training, $3,400 for the 4-day training, and $3,900 for the 5-day training covers the cost of the training, all materials, and breakfast and lunch for the first day of training (March 11th Introductory day only). The fee does not include breakfast, lunch and dinners for Tuesday-Friday training days or overnight accommodation. Refunds will be given, minus a $50 processing charge, if cancellation is made by February 12, 2024. After February 12, 2024, no refunds will be given.

Accommodations and travel

The Raleigh-Durham Airport is 18 miles from Chapel Hill. Upon acceptance, applicants will be sent information about hotel, rental cars, taxis, airport limousines and shuttle service. The training will be held at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Durham/Chapel Hill. Rooms will be held at the hotel at a special rate of $119/night.

Schedule and course credit

The Monday session will run approximately from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the following observation days from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Letters of completion will be given only for participation in the entire session, so please make travel plans accordingly.
